It's a Sufi saying- though the word for "China" was a play on "focused concentration/meditation" in arabic or persian...

On the other hand, the phrase was also used as a double meaning- folks who only thought about things externally would try to find the answers externally- those who saw things at essence would try to find the essence of the situation.

The journey of becoming who you are is definitely the journey of a lifetime =)
