Neologism of the day

Tagonist

A fictional character that is important to the story. Whether they are sympathetic or not, whether they are "good" or not, and whether their primary function is to generate or resolve conflict is undefined.

Useful for RPGs.

Is something wrong with "agonist", which word already exists and doesn't have sketchy morphology?

Tagonist sounds cooler.

I've been using *tagonist for a while now. It's actually in the text of Shock:.

On the other hand:

agonist
Activator; an agonist at a given neuroreceptor activates that receptor.

That's a pretty good word. I might wind up using it in Shock: for its scientistic awesomenity.

Has nothing to do with Captain Kaff Tagon, of Schlock Mercenary fame, I presume? Maybe it goes the other way, though...
