I just got back from a family reunion in DC, which was the best experience I think I've ever had with a lot of extended family. Through some miracle of social snobbery, almost all of the people that I like showed up, and none of the people that I don't like showed. It was a remarkably pleasant time, catching up with a lot of cousins I haven't seen in a decade or more, meeting the kids, and relating to these people for the first time as an adult. Met some new husbands, saw some new kids, got to know the kids that I met last time in utero.
I think that's a big part of it. I'm no longer at the age where I'm bored by just talking, so I can do these things. Anyway.
Also, it was my last time seeing my nuclear family until I go to China, which was really emotional.
I'm just a squishy ball right now, I think. Perhaps I will write more about the cousins later.
