Polaris Needs You

As I just posted on the Forge, Polaris is nearing completion, and now I need help from other people.

In short, I need -- playtesters, layout guy, ad swap, serious readers.

In long, see this post

Contact by commenting here, or whatever.

Thanks to those that can help!

I'm TOTALLY down with playtesting.

I have two groups that I think would work splendidly.

In.

But you knew that, right?

[identity profile] judd-sonofbert.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it might be kinda rough, getting a group together every week.

I could probably get my infrequently meeting Friday group together. We'll be meeting this week and then taking a week off and then we should be meeting regularly after that.

Hm.

Let me see how they feel about it.

How fancy does your layout need to be? If you don't need much more than I did with Primetime Adventures, I can hook you up.

Plus I'm unemployed, so I have a lot of free time.

And of course I'll ad swap with you when/if I ever finish the book revision.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
You'll finish.

And of course I want to adswap. I mean, damn. PrimeTime Adventures. Damn.

I'll read!

[identity profile] xorphus.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to read it. I'd like to playtest, pending my current group's willingness to set aside an extra game night.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! I don't know who you are, actually. I have a hunch you are one of the FATE guys. Is that true?

Oh, dear, how rude of me. I'm Brendan. I read the Forge much more often than I write there, and I've been intrigued by the posts about Polaris (I actually bookmarked the 1.0 playtest PDF a while back but never got around to reading it). Does awareness of the forum discussions disqualify me from being a serious reader?

I am not, sadly, one of the FATE guys; my own design work is currently in the cocktail-napkin stage. I write very short stories (http://www.xorph.com/anacrusis/), I run a community game blog (http://www.xorph.com/dispatch/), and I play Nobilis with some people who respond well to beauty and horror.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Anacrusis guy! Cool. I like your writing a bunch.

P.S. Also, Nobilis is the bomb. In that it explodes, and kills people.

[identity profile] xorphus.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that might be the coolest thing anybody's said to me all year. I like your writing as well!

[identity profile] bar-sinister.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm interested in reading and/or playtest, Ben. I did read an earlier version, so I may not be qualified for reading. Let me know. As far as testing goes, I can get a group together for this, definitely.

[identity profile] bob-goat.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Between groups now so no playtesting but I would be happy to read. If you need layout put me on the list too. And even though I am not a cool innovative Forge game, I would be happy to swap add space. It is looking like I will have a few pages open (yeah!).

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, your art is so sexy that I want to bear its children. I'm just worried that an ad of yours would make the rest of my game look like crap.

Now you are just trying to make me blush cause I look just so damn good with red in my cheaks.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ron and I literally spent half of Sunday night at GenCon ogling your book.

Well thank you. You guys are too kind. The revision will look even tighter cause it will have better lay out cause I am not rushing through anything this time. Taking my sweet ass time.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I don't understand where you get off on this "not a cool innovative Forge game" crap. Your game looks really cool, and I'm buying it next time I see you. Like -- holy shit -- guidelines for designing your own metaplot and your own campaign and your own reasons for the sinister conspiracy behind the world? That is *awesome* That is, like, the most innovative thing to come out of RPG design in years. My only disappointment is that I wanted real Europe as a setting, but I'm a perv like that.

P.S. Everyone reading this -- go buy Keith's game. Esp. after the revision.

[identity profile] bob-goat.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Bah I say. Innovative is PTA or Dogs. I'm just common sense advice on how to fuck all do his shit yourself cause I'm lazy and don't want to write everything for folks. Fuck them and their own laziness...

Oh and you want Europe? Well the revisions to the rules make it supper easy to do Europe or anything else. I generalized the ethnicity stuff (you write up your own) so that is can easily translate to say 12th century Poland or 2nd century Rome or whatever. So be a perv!

I'd be happy to playtest and read, and merely request hard ETA's for either so I can come through.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
We go to print June 21st, if all goes well. So playtest results by mid-june is good.

PDFs should go out tomorrow, God willing.

[identity profile] xiombarg.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still interesting in playtesting this, if you send me materials. I almost got enough players TWICE.

What's especially annoying about this is I can get SEVEN players for Nobilis, but not three for this...

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yo!

Now you only need three players.

I wrote that rule just for you (and Meg.)
