Old Skool is the 80s.
Hard Core is pre-1984.

Example: 1st Edition Traveller. Ever had a character die in character generation before? That's Old Skool Traveller.

Owning the four Basic sets of D&D - Basic, Expert, Companion & Master. That's Old Skool.

All you johnnie-come-latelys are just messing up the roleplaying for us folks who don't hold with this 'optional variable damage' rule. 1d6 damage for all weapons was good enough for Gynax, it's good enough for us!
