Hi, Matt! Welcome. I don't even know the real names of half the people who read this journal, so we're all good.

Are you thinking of a game that is structured via the I-Ching? 'cause yeah, that's what it is.

Does it have both a mechanism for generating content out of hexagrams and a "smaller" mechanism of associations, themes, wandering damage, or whatever based on just the trigrams? Does it associate the general interpretative meanings of the hexagrams with whatever content it's generating, and does it also bring in the actual images? (Can you find it in the sandy ground? Does it emulate the ocean's sound?)

Yes. Yes. Maybe. (Yes. No.)

That's pretty cool! (What I meant by "the actual images" is the tricky symbolic stuff, both recurring and nonrecurring—"the great river," various compass directions, "the cauldron," etc.)

And a different note re random content seeds: I am seriously considering running a one-shot at ProCon in March that'll be based on stuff I've written for a stories-from-spam (www.livejournal.com/community/spam_literature) community that [livejournal.com profile] emergent started. I think I am not going to be hardcore enough to generate content for it on the fly; I'm still working on the exact mechanism by which settings and situations will be fluid. But . . . well, interesting and informative to read this discussion.
