In a conversation with D. I was reminded of these... written a while ago.

The Than Bauk is a neat poetic form. It comes from Burma, and was important to the west only very recently. It is three lines of four syllables, with a unique rhyme scheme.

Silence, pity
that beastly man
we see his tracks

----

In firelight
we will fight for
the right words spoke

Please elucidate this rhyme scheme. It is opaque to me!

But finding it is half the fun! :-)

Hint -- look at the last syllable of the first line.

P.S. If you are totally stuck, google will reveal it to you.

I got it without the hint (I think). First line last syllable, second line third syllable, third line second syllable--moving backwards. To be fair, I think you mentioned this form to me when you were recently reading them some time ago. Still, I'm proud of myself ;¬) I assume the stress pattern doesn't matter since Thai is not a stress language?

Not Thai, actually, but Burmese. And I have no idea if it is a stress language or not...
