The Secret Country by Pamela Dean is pretty essential.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Did you get a chance to finish 12K? If not LMK and I'll see what I can do.

Un Lun Dun by China Mieville will rock your world.

[identity profile] benlehman.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really, really skeptical of Mieville. I put down Perdido St. Station out of apathy. I find his writing style kinda boring.

Does Un Lun Dun represent a dramatic shift in style?

There you are! I'd love it if you could take a little time to hit the forge booth menu thread (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=24077.0) and fill me in on your stuff's missing info.

Man, I don't even recognize half of the stuff on that list, above. Inspiration for *what*?

That's a good question.

P.S. The problem is I don't know what I'm going to be selling anything for, yet.

I guess I just don't understand the "theme" at work enough here to feel like I can suggest additions that could be in the same vein, is all.

The problem is I don't know what I'm going to be selling anything for, yet.

That's cool. But I've gotta get things locked down or removed from the menu come July, so I can use my very scant free time in that month to actually get things finished up and printed in time to have easily on hand in August. Thus the nudge!

Kino's Journey totally fits.

How about Time Bandits, Labyrinth, The Explorers, The D&D cartoon, etc.? The 80's was full of magical world awesome. Huh. I guess Pan's Labyrinth also fits in a dark way. Digimon might also work too.

I don't know The Explorers, but yes to everything else, especially Time Bandits, which is awesome. Also the Adventures of Baron Munchausen but not, importantly, Brazil.
