As always, it began with just one spark:
A bit of one where zero should have been.
The people thought it quite a novel lark
A machine that's to a human so akin!

So they made copies, and more copies, more!
Sold from the warehouse at a discount rate.
They put them in their cars and in their doors
and made them into new exciting mates.

And if there were no children, that's no thing
machine babies are the state of the art:
Cutesy little children that play and sing
and with none of the smelly poopy parts.

In the end, no humans did remain.
Machines cared not, for our loss was their gain.

The story of the golem became one of my favorites when I realized that it was all about the things you give up by believing in the constructed more than the real. :)

It is an excellent story. This one is, I'm afraid, not so excellent. I don't really believe in artificial intelligence.

That's sort of the interesting thing I think about that story- it goes on a rampage, not unlike, say, a set of rules or belief system when it's followed without thought. It's not so much the golem (or the robot itself), it's the blind faith put into it. (echoed in your story with the idea that people would just buy robo children...)

I think though, in terms of the robot (or alien) takeover genre, it's a vent for the feelings and issues of genocide while being distanced enough to not trigger people. Exactly how movie monsters often deal with human violence or abuse.
