People who live in Boston area, can any of you recommend to me a good bank? I'm mostly interested in not paying too much (or anthing) for my checking account, and having a fair supply of ATMs to withdraw from. Bonus if it's a national or international chain.

Citizens Bank is ubiquitous in Boston and has free checking.
They also have some sort of exchange that makes it easy to do banking in China. I don't know the details, but I saw a poster about it when I was in the other day.

Fleet/Bank of Boston/Baybank/BankBoston has changed names often to shake the trail of disenchanted customers. They're terrible. Their policy — and this is stated policy — is to make their money off low-income customers because they're most likely to incur fees. So they fee the living shit out of you. Which, of course, incurs fees.

Now it's called Bank of America. Flee the fees!

I'm not a big fan of Sovereign Bank, but I am too lazy to change. There is not enough locations and the locations they have keeps stupid hours. What kind of bank closes at 3:30?

I like Wainwright. Small, indepedent, socially active. Checking account is free if you do direct deposit. And with the Sum network you are almost always near an ATM that chages no fee.
