First my brother played D&D in his afterschool program. He brought it home and ran it for my mom and I, once. I lassoed a rust monster and had the time of my young life.

Then I played in the same afterschool program. At the same time, I played a lot of games with other friends. I was also playing an imaginative game based on Nintendo with blank sheets of paper and pencils with my friend Patrick. I did not at all associate these two activities.

Then I played Star Frontiers, Tunnels and Trolls, my brother's homebrews, freeform stuff, and AD&D.

Then I played basic D&D some more, and then Heroes Unlimited, Marvel Superheroes, AD&D, Boot Hill, Indiana Jones, and Cyberpunk. We tried vampire once but we didn't get the point of play.

Then I played White Wolf, AD&D, Marvel Superheros, and for the first time my group had girls in it.

Then I played Marvel Superheros, Mind's Eye Theatre, Earthdawn, Silhouette, other LARP systems, a ton of homebrews and half-designs, and got all snooty about my play. I failed to enjoy D&D3, Tri-Stat, and some other stuff.

Then I played Riddle of Steel.

Then I played more Riddle of Steel, D&D3, and took a passing shot at Sorcerer.

Then I played PTA and Dogs in the Vineyard.

Then I played Arcana Unearthed, and more D&D3.

Then I played Polaris, Under the Bed, Breaking the Ice, and it was all downhill from there.

Is Iron Heroes mashed into D&D3, or "downhill from there"?

Iron Heros, along with 1001 nights, shock:, shooting the moon, perfect, the drifter's escape, bliss stage, AG&G, the roach, etc. is in "downhill from there."

Downhill = easier to play? not as satisfying?

I'm confused.

Downhill as it "from that point on, my sinister addiction to games that actively assisted me in fulfilling my creative goals was basically fixed."

Tunnels and Trolls, as evidenced by [livejournal.com profile] egowumpus, should only be played as a drinking game.

Good drinking game, though.

Wow, I had totally forgotten about that rust monster. But I remember it now.
