Hrm. I'm trying to get this to work right -- I want the background to be transparent, not tooth-paste blue. Any insight into how to do this? People familiar with Graphic Converter for OSX would be the most welcome, but any advice is fine.
It's been a while since I've used Graphic Converter, but if I recall correctly there should be a transparency tool, or menu item, which you can use to make a single color within the palette become transparent. This, however, only works if the picture is of type GIF which in turn requires a 256 or smaller number of colors in the palette to begin with.
It is also possible that you correctly created the trasparent GIF, but when you uploaded it to livejournal it converted it out of GIF format. Try just opening the picture directly in the webbrowser as a test of this possibility.
LJ definitely allows transparency - nearly all my icons have transparent components - but you might want to try messing around with the PNG format. GIFs suck.
