Art Video Game

After playing Jason Rohrer's body of work last night (google it: gravitation is the best of them), I got inspired to design an explicitly artistic video game. So I did. Or at least I produced a sketch of a design. Inspired by Rohrer, it's explicitly autobiographical (like, honestly, all of my games). It's also a response to Rohrer's ideas about score in games.

But to take this further I'm going to need both art and coding. Art I may be able to do myself -- Rohrer's little pixel sprites have convinced me I might be able to pull it off -- but coding I will not be able to do.

So I'm looking for someone to help me with it.

The project I'm thinking of is relatively small (inspired by Rohrer's work, it will probably have a two minute timeframe), and uses the basis of a 2d platformer, but involves a few mechanics. I have no idea how much coding effort it would be.

If you are interested in helping me out, comment here or contact me privately (taogames@gmail.com). We can figure out how much work it'll be and whether it's possible. I will pay you some sort of recompense (either cash up front or half of the donations that come from the game).

It's not a hurried thing, it's not a deadline thing. Given that I'm going to be teaching myself art for the game, I'm expecting it will take a while (a 6 mo - 2 year project). It's a project you could undertake in your spare time.

* There are other tasks that I'm probably not forseeing -- sound design for instance. If you're interested in helping with something which I haven't thought of yet you could also contact me privately.

** If you're an artist, and interested, you know, I'm not %100 sold on doing the art myself. At all.

*** Please feel free to spread this around to as many people as possible. If you have bored programmer friends, bored artists friends, whatever.

Hey, Geeks. You won

Surprise, geeks. You won!

1) No one thinks role-playing games are a tool of Satan anymore. You won!

2) Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror constitute the bulk of popular literature across all media. You won!

3) Video games are the unifying experience of two consecutive generations, and widely regarded as artistic by people who aren't old fuddy-duddies. You won!

4) ?

Anyone else got stuff to contribute?
