Spent three weeks at home.

My mother is strong, but cancer is hard. Hers especially. She has some horrible, rare form that I don't even know how to say, let alone spell. It's rare enought that there are essentially no defined treatments for it, and those treatments that do exist are undertested and very old-fashioned (read: barbaric.) You know that you're in bad shape when you think of people with breast cancer as the lucky ones, but they are.

While I was home, she started a "light" chemotherapy regimen which essentially left her in nauseated %50 of the time, and weakened the rest. Now she is recovering somewhat, but has another chemo bout coming up.

Her spirits are still really high, and her PET Scan (apparently the best method of detection for this form of cancer) showed no cancer sites, which is very good. She is losing her hair, though, which makes me sad in some way that I can't quite identify. Although she seems fine with it.

I still did get many good chances to talk to her and my father. They are very excited about the Chinese (there wasn't a day when they didn't ask me to say something for them) and generally we're getting along well.

I also got a chance to see Jake, which made me very happy, as it was probably the last time I'll get to see him before he gets incarcerated (most likely 6 months at a sub-minimum security prison.) The prosecutors were going to let him go free if he named his friends, but he refused to do so. My parents were really upset about this choice. He was very calm about it. I honestly don't know what I would do.

His magazine now has a website. It distributes all over Northern California, too. All you writer types ought to submit things -- it's a good way to get exposure (5000 copy circulation) if nothing else.

I did other things while I was at home, and now I am back at school working on the finer points of Chinese grammar, but that's all for later.
